"The Tower of Babel" Ink and wash drawing by Fabien Castaing (1922-2012), architect in Toulouse, signed and dated lower right 28.11.76. The drawing on paper is mounted on a signed and dated canson. This drawing represents an imaginary city, in a vertical perspective, a sort of labyrinthine urban tower. The whole evokes the work of the artist Escher, and Piranesi. Between 1948 and 1975, Fabien Castaing left his mark on Toulouse and its region. He first worked with the departmental architect Pierre Viatgé with whom he designed numerous facilities. Together, they formed the AAA agency, the Atelier des Architectes Associés, which was joined by Pierre Debeaux, Alexandre Labat and Michel Bescos. The work of Fabien Castaing, which is not limited to a few flagship buildings. We know the Departmental Archives, the Citroën building, the Cité Daniel Faucher, but we know less that he designed many buildings or houses in Boulogne-sur-Gesse, Vigoulet-Auzil, Rieumes, Muret or Guzet. We also owe him the Bastiani building in Saint-Agne, the Babylone de la Terrasse residence, the monument to the glory of the Resistance, in collaboration with his friend Roger Tassera.
