A half wedding belt from Fez called Hizam. Woven on a handloom, it features four Hispano-Moorish designs including cashmere palmettes. At the ends, there is an eight-pointed star "seal of Solomon" and a "Khamsa" hand, commonly the hand of Fatima, intended to remove the evil eye! It is lined with unbleached cotton sateen (stains), like the oldest belts recorded. Note scratches on the edges, some pulled threads and some missing fringes. Stable condition.
Dimensions: 14 cm wide by 219 cm long.
This belt comes from a set of 11 pieces that decorated a Château in the South West of France in the Bordeaux region. Le Collectionneur was published in decoration magazines in the 1970s, associated with 18th century French. He published a major work which is still a reference today and which will be communicated to the buyer.
