Our work has the particularity of being painted on both sides.
On the verso where his signature appears, a young woman with silky blond hair, leaning on the edge of a bench, offers her back to the gaze. The folds and hollows of her spine seem sculpted by effects of light emerging from the right side.
The composition is framed by the green-blue and orange touches of the curtains and fabrics of the sofa. It is enhanced in the center by the white and vaporous halo of a fabric similar to tulle.
On the front, another version of a female back is sketched. The young brunette, leaning on one arm, passes her other hand behind the nape of her neck to grasp her hair. The modeling of the back is rendered by subtle touches of green surrounding the shoulder blades and the contours of the arms.
Albert François GENTA (1901 Paris - 1989 Paris)
French painter renowned for his representations of female nudes for illustration and the press. Coming from a family of artists, his father was a sculptor, his mother a painter, Albert Genta trained at the École Nationale des Arts Décoratifs.
From 1920, he exhibited regularly in official salons and at the Salon des Indépendants, and this until his death. His nudes did not fail to arouse controversy, shaking prudish souls.
The artist also took on the role of teacher at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière and, from 1948 onwards, published several works in the collection Teaching Drawing by Example.
