This anonymous portrait, painted half-bust, represents a young woman with a carefully styled hair parted in the middle and whose pure oval face is enlivened by two pupils as dark as her hair. The rosy hues of her cheeks echo the delicate complexion of her small lips, which seem to draw a slight pout. The gaze is turned towards the oblique light source that shades her features, her neck and her shoulders. It is tinged with a certain melancholy, as if absorbed in a resigned attitude.
This anonymous portrait, probably from the mid-19th century, can be compared to the female portraits and Florentine studies of Hippolyte Flandrin.
