The icon is signed lower left in Cyrillic "P Soubbotine" and dated "1894, May 23".
I. Soubbotin was active at the end of the 19th century in St. Petersburg -- then capital of the Russian empire.
Due to its large size, this work was likely produced following a commission from a Orthodox church.
The icon is finely painted in rich and warm tones on a wooden panel. Its so-called "academic" style is typical of the works of the St. Petersburg school of this period.
Very good original condition. Some cracks, wear and small losses on the edge.
This collector's item is sold with its certificate of authenticity and a full description of the work.
