Large Russian Silver Gilt Enamel Presentation Egg,3artel
An Easter egg that opens into two parts, crafted from vermeil and featuring polychrome cloisonné enamels. It is richly decorated with a continuous pattern of foliage, stylised leafy scrolls, floral motifs and geometric palmettes. The enamel, with its vivid colours, features shades of royal blue, turquoise, white, olive green and brick red, delineated by a fine network of silver filigree. The central band is adorned with a frieze of ovals and repeating geometric motifs. The interior retains its original fine gold gilding.
Made in Moscow. Early 20th century. Marked with the 84 zolotniks hallmark (kokoshnik head facing right) and the hallmark of the 3rd Moscow Artel (‘3А’ in Cyrillic).
