Late Renaissance Cut Velvet Table Cloth - Italy Late 16th, Early 17th Century

Early 17th century Italy Rare and precious complete Italian table cloth in cut velvet. Design of undulating stems punctuated by large flowers with hooked florets taken from the Renaissance or from Ottoman art or Venetian art of the same period. The probable dating is late 16th or first half of the 17th century. The inclined cut velvet background presents a cameo of mottled green and yellow tones, with in hollow, the fluted decoration in yellow linen and silk. To be compared with the velvets of the Museo del Tessuto of Prato in Italy or even of the Musée des tissus of Lyon which present some fragments of very similar models. Possible production of Florence (?). Fully lined with siamese (cotton linen) dyed with indigo or pastel dating from the same period. The braid of fringes in two-tone silk cords on the four sides seems to exist originally as well. An exceptional piece on several counts. Small stains and frayed weave in places but the whole remains structurally stable thanks to its lining. Good general condition considering its age. Aesthetically, the light capture of the velvet remains incredible! Dimensions: 200 cm x 160 cm in three sewn strips 52 cm wide.
