Théodore Gérard, Gallant Scene, Oil On Panel, Dated 1877 In Its Original Louis XVI Style Frame
Artist: Théodore Gérard (1829-1902)
Oil on panel painting by Théodore Gérard (1829-1902) of an interior depicting a gallant scene of a man offering a bouquet of flowers to a lady in the presence of a cat.
Signed and dated lower left ‘Théodore Gérard 77’.
In its original Louis XVI style gilded frame, with presentation plaque.
Gérard's work - Belgian school - includes numerous genre scenes of families and musicians, as well as portraits. He was a keen traveller, visiting Switzerland, Alsace, Moselle, the Black Forest and Austria, among other places, which explains the German and Austrian influence in his work. Gérard won several medals at national and international exhibitions (1870, 1871, 1873, 1875, etc.).
This painting shows his remarkable sense of realism and detail.
