"Meeting On The Mountain Path By Józef Jaroszyński (1835 Lwow - 1900 Munich)"
This genre scene depicting Hutsuls on a mountain path was painted by the renowned Polish-Ukrainian artist Józef Jaroszyński (1835 Lviv – 1900 Munich). He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. In his early career, he focused primarily on painting studies of horses. His canvases also included landscapes, hunting scenes, and scenes of Hutsul and Ukrainian village life—recurring themes in his work. He is also known for compositions inspired by literary and historical motifs. The painter also experimented with lithography. Interestingly, references to the work of Józef Brandt and Alfred Wierusz-Kowalski can be found in his paintings. Although Jaroszyński lived in Delatyn (now in Ukraine) for most of his life, he was also very attached to Munich, where he regularly traveled for twenty years (his studio was located there). The artist exhibited his works not only in Vienna and Munich, but also in Kraków, Lviv, and Warsaw. He was a full member of the Munich Kunstverein.
