Monstrance Reliquary Of Saint Roch – 19th Century
Notice to pilgrims with this relic of their patron saint! Encased in crystal, sits a so-called exiguous relic, in the center of our gilded and silvered brass monstrance. The encolpion that houses it is surrounded by four angels, finely chiseled and worked arabesques. The relic has its episcopal seal. On the back of the cross is engraved the words "Reliquiae S Rochi, autenticae", in the year of God 1863.
A writing is attached to the reliquary, which does not meet the usual criteria for official authenticity. Obviously old, it nevertheless certifies the relics offered for devotion, under the authority of Monsignor René-François Régnier , Archbishop of Cambrai from 1850 to 1881.
He received from the Pope in 1873, the Roman purple of the Cardinal. Finally, our reliquary has its original case.
Dimensions of 33.5 cm high by 17.5 cm wide.
Excellent condition for this complete set.
