Commode in solid walnut and walnut veneer, with a strongly curved front and rounded sides with a corbelled profile, opening with three rows of drawers arranged on three levels. Each drawer has a molded and shaped frame, characteristic of Bordeaux furniture from the Louis XV period.
The molded top, slightly overhanging, follows the overall curve of the piece. The drawer panels are decorated with geometric marquetry in walnut veneer, highlighting the natural grain of the wood. The sides, also veneered, are curved and understated, without added decoration, in keeping with regional production from the Southwest.
The lower apron is carved and shaped, forming an elegant undulating curve, resting on four cabriole legs, subtly scrolled. The whole piece demonstrates a harmonious balance between robustness and elegance.
The gilt bronze ornamentation includes drop handles with finely chased floral rosettes, as well as rocaille keyhole escutcheons centered on each drawer, with asymmetrical motifs typical of the Louis XV style. The bronzes are uniform and well-proportioned.
This piece is attributable to high-quality Bordeaux craftsmanship, identifiable by the robust curves, the thickness of the wood, the decorative restraint, and the masterful carving. It comes from an Angevin château, attesting to its long history in an aristocratic or upper-class setting.
The piece shows signs of old restorations, without any significant alteration to the structure or the original design. The patina is warm and deep, revealing careful preservation. Overall, it is in good condition.
