Gilt Bronze Venus Chariot Clock 19th Century
Louis XVI style Venus chariot clock in chased and gilded bronze on a gilded bronze base. The white enamel dial measuring 11cm in diameter is marked Lerolle Frères Paris. Chips at the winding hole should be noted. The movement on the back is marked Lerolle Frères Paris N°1102. Missing parts and significant wear to the gilding should be noted. The winding key and the pendulum are present. The clock is in working order.
This is a model after Robert Robin (1742-1799), clockmaker to King Louis XVI. A similar clock with a white marble base is in the Palace of Versailles (inventory number V5204).
