African Tribal Art - Vere Couple, Durun, Cameroon
Ex-French collection, the name will be communicated to the buyer.
The Vere, Verre, Were, Duru-Verre, or Dii, live in northeastern Nigeria, in the state of Adamawa (formerly Gongola), as well as in northern Cameroon. This small community lives in circular huts, gathered in fortified villages. The Vere statuettes, whose function remains uncertain, are uncommon and have similarities with the works of the Mumuye, their close neighbors established between Nigeria and Cameroon.
