Kpm Berlin – Large Oval Porcelain Presentation Dish With Polychrome Floral And Gilt Decoration
KING’S PORCELAIN MANUFACTORY OF BERLIN (KPM)
Large oval serving dish in hard-paste porcelain, matching the lidded bowl. It features a dynamic rim with twisted ribs and wickerwork reliefs (known as the ‘Ozier’ decoration).
The centre is adorned with a superb bouquet of hand-painted polychrome flowers rendered in naturalistic style, dominated by a large, blooming orange poppy, accompanied by a mauve peony and small wildflowers. The rim is adorned with alternating flower baskets and floral sprays, interspersed with a cobalt-blue mosaic border, enhanced by foliage scrolls, garlands of leaves and rocaille volutes in brilliant gold relief. The scalloped edge is entirely edged with a gold fillet.
Marked with a sceptre in red, concealed beneath the base (mark of the KPM Berlin manufactory).
Germany (Prussia). Neo-Rococo (Historicism) period, second half of the 19th century, circa 1860–1880.
