A dessert plate / bowl in silver 900, designed and executed by Emmy Roth in her Berlin-Charlottenburg workshop circa 1926–1928. Diameter 19.8 cm · height 2 cm. Shallow bowl with broad hammered rim with a simple slightly cubist geometric border. Hallmarks: crescent moon · crown · E. ROTH in block letters · 900. The hammered rim with its sober geometric decoration — a direct expression of the dialogue between artisanal silversmithing and the cubist vocabulary of the 1920s — is characteristic of Emmy Roth's mature period: her style had evolved from richly ornamented small pieces towards a sober and functional language, marked by the influence of the Bauhaus while retaining an organic sensibility particular to her work.

Emmy Roth (born Emmy Urias, Hattingen, 12 May 1885 – Tel Aviv, 11 July 1942) is, alongside Paula Straus, the principal figure of female silversmithing of the Bauhaus period in Germany. She completed her silversmithing apprenticeship at the Silberschmiedefirma Conrad Anton Beumers in Düsseldorf — an exceptional training for a woman at that time. From 1920 until 1933 she directed a workshop and showroom in Berlin-Charlottenburg that became one of the reference addresses of the German avant-garde silversmithing world. She presented her work regularly at the Leipzig Grassimessen and featured in international exhibitions: the Woman's National Exposition in St Louis in 1928 and the pioneering die gestaltende Frau exhibition in Berlin in 1930. Her works are held in the collections of the Jüdisches Museum in Berlin and the Cincinnati Art Museum. Following the National Socialist seizure of power in 1933, Emmy Roth emigrated progressively. She took her own life in Tel Aviv in 1942.

Her work was rediscovered through the exhibition FrauenSilber. Paula Straus, Emmy Roth & Co. Silberschmiedinnen der Bauhauszeit at the Badisches Landesmuseum in Karlsruhe and the Bröhan-Museum in Berlin in 2011.
