"Ancient Bronze Mortar 16th Century"
An extraordinary lost-wax cast bronze pharmacy mortar. The mortar's exterior is decorated with a series of alternating frames, and at the bottom is a wide band decorated with phytomorphic motifs. Above this is an elegant composition of alternating acanthus leaves and medallion decorations depicting male profiles enclosed in garlands, in keeping with classical style. Inside one medallion, the name of the founder of this extraordinary piece is partially legible. Tuscan manufacture, 16th century.
