"Shah's Silk Tabriz, Circa 1960"
This exceptional and very fine piece of Tabriz silk, originating from north-west Iran and dating from the time of the Shah around 1960, made of velvet like the warps, wefts and fringes in silk, it offers an impressive density of approximately 1 million knots per square decimeter. In a perfect state of conservation, it magnificently retains its vibrant colors. Its ruby field is adorned with a rich decoration of a thousand stylized polychrome flowers in the shape of burst diamonds, framing a polylobed and crenellated central rosette in old gold, surrounded by a fine, delicately drawn floral crown. The four turquoise spandrels are decorated with four crowns in the shape of vases inlaid with floral bouquets. The five borders, the main one of which is turquoise, are decorated with seedlings of buds and flower bulbs, surrounded by finely drawn foliage. The other borders feature stylized birds, surrounded by flower buds and multicolored foliage, all very finely drawn. measurements: 290 x 186 cm
