Bronze plaquette, the Holy Family with Elizabeth and John the Baptist, 17th century
This plaquette takes inspiration from a drawing of Paulus van Vianen (1570-1613) and depicts figures dressed in Renaissance fashion. Sat on the left side, the Virgin holds naked Child Jesus sat on her knees. Kneeling down on the right, Elizabeth presents her son Saint John the Baptist to them. He holds in his hands a bird tied to a cord, and a cross-shaped stick under his arm. Behind them, Saint Joseph wearing a hat is standing leaning on a staff. In the background, some trees with a drapery hanging on the branches.
Very good condition, gilding on the back.
