Hunt & Roskell : Rare Basket / Display Dish In Sterling Silver & Engraved Crystal London 1873
An exceptional and rare Victorian basket / display dish in engraved crystal and solid silver in a Navette shape, resting on a base with four scrolled feet decorated with foliage, florets and a frieze of pearls. Body with a "Dolphin" Head at both ends, the rear part surmounted by a superb finely detailed Putto leaning against a monogrammed backrest. Other features include a border of water leaves encasing the rim of the crystal body, and an elaborately decorated fixed openwork handle. English Title Hallmarks (.925), Hallmarks for LONDON 1873 (date letter "S"), and Hallmark of Master Goldsmiths and Jewelers John HUNT & Robert ROSKELL (Late STORR & MORTIMER) active in 1866, suppliers to Queen Victoria. This exceptional Basket / Display Dish with spectacular decoration is in excellent condition with only light signs of use to note. A masterly hand crafted decorative piece to dress the finest of tables.
