Renaissance Period, 16th Cty Rare Cooper Knife
RENAISSANCE PERIOD
Late 15th or early 16th cty
Stunning and exceptional powerfull "cauchoir" , cooper knife, used specially to incise togive a curve size to rushes that terminated the barrels at their top and bottom, without breaking them
The bronze handle, finely chiseled has a standing or sitting lion shape, perfectly similar to lion from andirars or chandelars from same period.
The strong iron / steel blade is widely beveled toward its sharp / cutting edge (please check photos of the top of the blade), oxidized but nonetheless well preserved, with its perfect sharpness; It has in its upper part, a large throat.
The perfect hand held is reinforced by a semi-circular notch inside of the bottom of the blade, nearly the guard. This cutting of the blade allows for a more efficient grip.
