Pair Of Five-flame Table Candlesticks (girandoles) In Sterling Silver
Pair of Five-Light Art Deco Girandoles
Design: Hugo Böhm, Schwäbisch Gmünd
Execution / Retail: Gebrüder Friedländer, Berlin
Circa 1910–1920
Pair of modernist five-light table candlesticks (girandoles) in sterling silver (925/1000). The design is attributed to the firm Hugo Böhm, Schwäbisch Gmünd, executed and retailed by Gebrüder Friedländer, Berlin, in the early Art Deco period.
Each candlestick is structured around a raised central socket, flanked by four outward-curving arms with screw-mounted nozzles. The composition is defined by restrained geometric articulation and subtle wave motifs in the central shaft. The base is circular and stepped, reinforcing the vertical emphasis of the design. The detachable nozzles (“heads”) are screw-fitted.
Marks: crescent and crown (German national silver mark), “925”, factory mark of Hugo Böhm, and retailer’s mark “Gebr. Friedländer”.

The pair represents a refined example of early German Art Deco silver, combining the precision of Schwäbisch Gmünd silver production with the progressive retail network of Berlin’s leading Jewish-owned silver firm Gebrüder Friedländer. The restrained modernist vocabulary and sculptural clarity reflect the transition from late Jugendstil to geometric Art Deco design in Germany around 1920.
