Impeccable and very beautiful hand-knotted Kashan in kork wool circa 1970-1980.
It measures 134 cm wide by 213 cm long for 360,000 knots per m2.
The central motif with two large pendants draws a large stylized flower in bloom, surrounded by other numerous flowers covering the field.
The border made up of varied motifs, palmettes and alternating branches is inspired by ancient models from Herat. This entire piece is in perfect condition, the velvet clean, the edges impeccable and the fringes short.
The general condition is very good, there is no pile reduction, the fine Kork wool used is of first quality, the selvedges and fringes in very good condition. The colors are fresh without loss of color and not exposed.
Kashan (Kachan, Keshan): large city in central Iran. During the Persian Renaissance, Kashan was the center of carpet production of legendary splendor. Finely woven carpets, of very rich composition, were knotted by the royal factory of Shah Abbas.
They have become the centerpieces of museums and private collections. Craftsmanship was interrupted in Kashan between the Afghan invasion (1722) and the end of the 19th century. The revival of carpet production began with carpets which are distinguished by the superior quality of the wool giving an extremely velvety appearance. These examples are called Kashan Motashemi, named after the most famous master weaver of the late 19th century. The settings are varied and meticulously crafted: hunting scenes, figured subjects inspired by Persian mythology, birds in a plant setting, trees of life. Thanks to the superior quality of the wool, their dense knotting, the beauty of their natural colors and their fine designs, the Kashan took their place among the best Persian rugs.
This rug has been professionally and ecologically cleaned.
