Superb Kashan from the second half of the 20th century, 1950-1960, hand knotted in fine and dense kork wool and silk.
This measuring rug, 133 cm wide by 204 cm long, is in very good condition with slight wear from use.
These pieces with a little seniority are finer than modern pieces and the decorations are often a thousand times more abundant, richer, more extraordinary in the patterns by approaching the decorations of the 16th century.
The central motif offers a niche heavily decorated with flowers, trees of life.
# A vase in the center of the carpet is fully inscribed, an ancient attribute of the Sumerian goddess of water in the third millennium.
A vase from which water springs, the motif has remained in oriental art to this day, but it has lost its original meaning.
One of the most extraordinary group of ancient Persian carpets is that of the so-called "vase" carpets.
The vase is a pretext for an overflow, a floral burst, in scrollwork arabesques.
The vase associated with the tree of life, is found on the Persian type, Tabriz, Kachan, Macchad, but also on interpretations, Turkish, in the Ottoman carpets and the marvelous silks of Kashmir.
Over the centuries, the decor has moved away from the original decor.
The border, richly flowered, testifies, like the whole of this piece, to the mastery of the craftsman who knotted it. Blue and old rose interlacing, branches accompanied by pendants on a midnight blue background make up this piece embellished with this extraordinary border.
The whole field is covered with many flowers and palms, with a skilful and complex design, roses, lotus flowers, pistachios.
The wide, light wine-colored border is made up of varied motifs, also flowery, decorated with large, complex palmettes and medallions.
The general condition is very good, there is no pile reduction, the edges are good, the patina wonderful.
The delicate colors blend beautifully together. The velvet is tight, the fringes short, complete and clean, the edges in very good condition, the whole in very good condition. ## in the end, a quality piece in beautiful, solid and durable materials, with a clever and complex design.
## Kashan (Kachan, Keshan): large city in central Iran. During the Persian Renaissance, in the 16th and 17th centuries, Kashan was the center of carpet production of legendary splendour.
Carpets with fine weaving, of a very great richness of composition, were knotted by the royal factory of the Shah Abbas.
They have become the centerpieces visible throughout the world, in museums and private collections.
Craftsmanship was interrupted in Kashan between the invasion of the Afghans (1722) and the end of the 19th century, around 1870.
The revival of carpet production began with carpets that are distinguished by the superior quality of wool giving an extremely velvety appearance. These examples are called Kashan Motashemi, named after one of the most famous master weavers of the late 19th century.
The decorations are varied and offer meticulous craftsmanship: hunting scenes, subjects with figures inspired by Persian mythology, birds in a plant decor, trees of life, vision of earthly paradise.
Thanks to the superior quality of the wool (Kork wool, wool from the Iranian highlands, but also imported wool), their tight knotting, the beauty of their natural colors and their extremely delicate designs. and great finesse, the Kashan took their place among the best Persian rugs.
This rug has been professionally and ecologically cleaned.
