Kashmar carpets are woven in the northeast of Iran, in the small town of Kashmar, in the province of Khorassan.

These rugs, elegant works of art, are particularly appreciated for their harmonious color combinations and their very subtle level of detail. These rugs are often very large and woven with fine, soft wool, which results in a rather thick pile that is very soft when walked on.
Kashmar rugs can boast a wide range of designs: from beautifully ornate central medallions to spandrel patterns reminiscent of classic Keshan rugs, all are characteristic of the region.
However, the most famous and singular pattern is the zirhaki. The Farsi word "zirhaki", which can be translated as "under the earth" or "invaluable discoveries during archaeological excavations", refers to all types of objects that can be found in the ancient archaeological sites of Iran.

These objects are so magnificently represented on the carpets that one might believe that they recount the greatest historical events of ancient Persia.
