French school circa 1810: “Abandoned Ariane”, oil on canvas approximately 41 X 33cm mounted in its beautiful period frame 55 X 44 cm (to be restored). Very little primed as often at the time, some old restorations. This beautiful painting in delicate pastel colors is characteristic of the neo-classical movement. Even if the attributes are those of Diana the huntress, the composition with the boat moving away at sunset, the tears, this directs us rather to Ariane abandoned by Theseus on the island of Dia (although we speak more often of that of Naxos).
