Josephus J. Hubertus Cremers (1878-1922): "Very large portrait of a young girl", oil on free canvas 140 X 80 cm, 148 X 86 cm with the returns of the frame. Signed, located and dated lower right Jos. Cremers Roermond 1917. Previously rolled, the canvas has small horizontal gaps, which an amateur tried to "restore" at the level of the collar, recreating a huge thick lace collar! I think it should come off fairly easily. This Dutch artist had his studio in Roermond in the province of Limburg where he produced still lifes and portraits in a classic and well-mastered craft as shown in our painting where this dreamy young girl, leaning on a sideboard where a vase of roses rests , is decked out in her Sunday finery.
