Fritz : "skating In Barcelona" 1904

When I acquired this watercolor from a framer, I did not have to torture her for a long time to admit she cut it to crop it !
As there was nothing in the upper right, she thought it better to focus on the characters. Fortunately, she had kept and pasted on the back part dedication, so we know that it was made in Barcelona in 1904 (full period of Catalan Art Nouveau) by a certain Fritz and offered to Montserrat and Pepe, can -being this pair of skaters evolving on the ice of one of the many ice rinks that flourished then in Europe and attracted both the popular classes and the bourgeoisie.
The characters in the background, barely suggested by a few very accurate touches, are the counterpoint of the more detailed principals. Watercolor 27 X 21 cm mounted by a marie-louise in a 1920 silver frame accident 40 X 33.
