Bronze mortar, late 17th century, Rouen (Normandy), with half-round decoration of figures and/or masks between the buttresses in the form of columns, and on the edge four small masks.
Reference: book "La France des Fondeurs" (The France of the Founders) Art and Use of Bronze in the XVIth and XVIIth centuries" of the National Museum of the Renaissance.
We find in this catalog at n° 131 a mortar of the same invoice attributed to Jean Buret.
Beautiful original patina, good condition, note a slight push on the edge of the upper edge.
