Late 17th Century Carrara Marble Mortar
Refined medium-sized mortar, finely carved from white Carrara marble, used in ancient times in the kitchen or pharmacy. The mortar has a tapered shape, with a lobed rim featuring four protrusions. These are useful for easier gripping during pounding and for emptying the contents. It is an object of great taste and refinement, capable of lending a touch of antiquity to any space. Tuscan manufacture, late 17th century.
