Cottage terrine in the shape of a stylized rabbit, in glazed earthenware,
dated and signed. Popular art, Haute Saône, Franche-Comté (east of France).
Inside the lid is engraved with a nail the inscription "Antoine Manter potter in Demangevelle 1808";
Under the terrine: "Made by me Antoine Manter earthenware potter in Demangevelle in the year 1808".
Red earth, ocher glazed with manganese mottling (glossy varnish).
Piece broken and pasted back together, but very interesting as a document illustrating local pottery history.
The cover is missing. Sold as is (see photos).
For better reading, we have gone over the nail inscriptions in pencil.
