"Art Deco Teapot, Phillippe Wolfers, Brussels, 1924, Janine Model"
Exceptional and extremely rare Art Deco teapot of the Janine model, created by Philippe Wolfers in 1924-25 and dedicated to his granddaughter Janine. This set very clearly shows the influence of the creators of the Wiener Werkstatte and other Central European designers on the grand master of the Belgian Art Nouveau style. This influence was already very present in the 1900s but in this ensemble reached its peak after the years of creative vacuum during the First World War. This set precedes the magnum opus of the modernist work of Philippe Wolfers represented by his Giaconda set, created for the Belgian pavilion at the 1925 Paris decorative arts exhibition. With these modernist creations, the old Wolfers brilliantly proves that after having created with great virtuosity in the eclectic styles, Japanism and Art Nouveau, he mastered a fourth style with panache.
