Painting On Copper

Remarkable small painting on copper, of great finesse of execution representing "The Annunciation". The painting represents "The Angel Gabriel with a branch of lilies in his hand and the Virgin Mary". The Annunciation has been a common theme depicted in the visual arts from the early centuries of Christianity to the present day. The works dedicated to her describe the episode of the Annunciation during which "The Archangel Gabriel" announces to Mary that she will be Mother of Christ. An angel appears to Mary, surprised..., and explains to her that she will conceive the Lord not with a man, but by the action of the Holy Spirit. Mary expresses her acceptance and Christ is then incarnated in her. The frame is in gilded wood and carved with openwork motifs of scrolls and leaves of achante surmounted by a flower in high relief, of exceptional quality, work of sculptures very eventful in great thickness, (in the taste of Andrea Fantoni). Andrea Fantoni was a late Baroque Italian woodcarver, active in the region near Bergamo. He was born in Rovetta in "1659 and died in Bergamo in 1734". The painting bears the initials "KE" on the back. Italy very early 18th century around (1700). Dimensions of the painting... Height: 11cm Width: 8.5cm Dimensions of the frame...
