Old Caucasus Carpet, Kazak Cloud Band, Circa 1880
Antique Caucasian, Karabakh Cloud Band Kazak carpet, circa 1880.
These carpets were woven by Armenian weavers in the Duchy of Khachen in the city of Khndzoresk. They are known as Cloudband Kazaks due to the cloudband design in the medallions.
The carpet is nicely designed by its triple medallions encrusted with bands of clouds in an incredible color of dark indigo blue, sky blue, white and red, on a madder red background.
This copy has a warm color palette and rustic charm despite its distressed condition, it remains an attractive and unique rug.
