"Important Bronze "
Large bronze with green patina entitled "The Happy Child", signed Benedict Benoît ROUGELET (1834-1894). This undeniably talented French sculptor produced this work in 1880. “The Happy Child” represents a young child holding a tambourine and a thyrsus, the usual attributes of Bacchus. The smiling cherub with chubby body represents the son of Jupiter dancing happily. A wreath of flowers surrounds her forehead and her curly hair, reminiscent of an Italian Renaissance putto. Laughing and playful, the young god of the vine enjoys the pleasures of life. This Bronze is signed on the terrace and rests on a red marble base. The freshness and lightness of this mythologically inspired bronze make it a charismatic, graceful and refined work. ********* Period: Late 19th century Very good condition.
