The reddish brown is one of the characteristics of the Agras of this period, middle of the 20th century.
This Indo-Persian carpet leaves no room for emptiness, as an abundance of very elaborate and judiciously placed patterns fill the field and the border. The field is made up of two large medallions strewn with various flowers.
Each receives symmetrically four white swans ("Hamsa" in India, symbol of the soul or being, supreme spiritual achievement, "he walks, he flies, he swims") placed on a pool facing each other.
Around these palmipeds, eight peacocks in four pairs strut about in the garden.
These birds symbolize poetry, science and the arts through the goddess Sarasvati.
These birds and these flowers are also there to remind us of the existence of nature, beauty and consciousness, dear to the Hindu reason for living. At the central point of these medallions, a large flower cut with two flowery lines are inscribed as the center of the world and the four cardinal points. Around these medallions eight imposing dragons defy us ("Naga", serpent in Sanskrit). Cornus of beige-pink color, placed on their two anterior and open mouths.
Their presence is there to remind us that they guard nature and its treasures and are the symbol of immortality and fertility.
On the back of each dragon flies an eagle with sharp claws, "Garuda", the giant eagle, enemy of "Naga".
But in reality, Naga and Garuda are the two incarnations of Vishnu, protector, God of the stability of the world, savior and protector of humans who maintains life and creation, the theme of this carpet.
The border is decorated with large beige-brown and pearl-grey leaves and arabesques, arranged very regularly on a background repeating the color of the field and specific to the decoration of the borders of Agra carpets.
The fringes are kilim style on one side and long and fine on the other. The number of nodes of about 450,000 at M2.
One can realize after reading this work of art, that nothing is left to chance.
