Presumed Portrait Of Antoine Coysevox - Attributed To Charles Le Brun

Against a uniformly brown background stands a young man of about 25/30 years of age, illuminated by a light coming from the right of the painting:
his face turned three-quarters and his arms in the opposite direction, he looks slightly upward at the outside of the canvas, with a slight smile as if he were observing a model, from whom he seems to be taking inspiration.
He is not wearing a wig, but his clothes show a high status.

The model in the hands of the young artist is easily recognizable: it is a reproduction of the Medici Venus found in the second half of the 16th century in Rome and exhibited in the late 16th or early 17th century.

We assume that the portrait represents Antoine Coysevox (1640- 1720) in his youth at the age of 25/30. Some features bring the subject of our portrait closer to the
the rounded shape of the face, the shape of the nose and the chin, the height of the cheekbones, the fleshy lower lip, the furrow between the eyebrows.
The portrait is attributed to his friend and painter Charles Le Brun (1619-1690). His age between the 1660s and 1670s is compatible with that of the subject of our portrait. These are the years during which Coysevox became known in the Parisian artistic milieu thanks to his qualities and his proximity to Lerambert and Le Brun.
Our portrait does not seem to have left any trace. With the exception of the one that could have been inspired by it: The portrait of M.Quatrehomme painted by Charles Le Brun kept at the Getty Museum.
