"Penitent Magdalene" Pompeo Girolamo Batoni (Lucca 1708- Rome 1787) Oil painting on canvas Old lacquered and gilded frame Canvas 48 x 64 Frame 57 x 73 Very good condition A beautiful and very young Madeleine with particularly soft features and far from usual messages of ostentatious sensuality. The author portrays this extraordinary female character, which especially stimulated the creativity of all the masters of ancient painting, in such a way as to make her unusually modest, with a very sweet and innocent face. The painting is of the highest quality, and intrinsic to the prerogatives of the pictorial style of Pompeo Batoni, one of the finest interpreters of the 18th century between Florence and Rome. The work is in excellent condition and is complete with the original faux marble lacquered frame. FIMA Certificate of Authenticity
