Russian Icon Of The Virgin Of Vladimir, Orthodox Russia 19th Century / Mary
Splendid russian icon of the Virgin of tenderness known as "Mother of God of Vladimir".
It dates from the second half of the 19th century.
Given its finesse and style, this work can be attributed to one of the best iconographic workshops in Moscow.
The Virgin embraces tenderly her son who presses his cheek against that of his mother.
It is painted with tempera on a gilded wood panel. The clothes are enhanced with a rich chrysography.
In the left border, we find Saint Antipas and on the right Saint Alexandra.
This icon, while being a very tender representation of motherhood, is a very good example of the Slavic Renewal style developed by the great Moscow workshops at that time.
Very nice original state of conservation.
It is sold with its certificate of authenticity and a complete description of the work. Dimensions: H 35 cm L 30.5 cm
