Imposing Decorated Octagonal Tea Box - China Or Japan, Late 19th Century

China or Japan – end of 19th century.
Imposing tea box in an octagonal shape in blackened wood and engraved pewter.
The whole is supported by four gilded lion paws.


On the body of the box, golden decors in lacquer imitation of chinese characters in flowery and vegetal landscapes.

On the lid, gilded friezes on the perimeter composed of flowers, insects, birds, butterflies and beetles. Beautiful decor representing two characters in a green landscape composed of trees, foliage and flowers.

The inside of the box is complete, including a tea box, a circular lid and a plug with an ivory take, the whole in engraved pewter.

On the circular lid, engraving of a fish and a phoenix, geometric decorations and frieze composed of flowers and leaves on the rest of the box.
