Founded in 1866 in Petersdorf by the industrialist Fritz Heckert (1837–1887), the Silesian glassworks established itself in the late 19th century among the most exceptional in Central Europe. Specialized in ceremonial pieces with polychrome and gilded enamels of historical, neo-Renaissance, or Oriental-inspired influence, the Heckert manufactory distinguished itself through perfect mastery of hot enamel on cobalt blue tinted glass and by the extreme finesse of its burnished gold heightening with agate.

This spectacular covered urn from the Fritz Heckert glassworks constitutes an emblematic ceremonial piece of Silesian decorative arts from the late 19th century, wonderfully illustrating the virtuosity of the master enamelers and glassmakers of Petersdorf.
