Achille Fouquier 27 : "ruins Of Old Azania"

Achille Fouquier (1817-1895?) 27 “Landscape with ancient Azania ruins” pencil drawing heightened with white stone 23 X 36 cm on beige paper, signed, located illegible then “ancient Azania” and dated July 15, 1853.
Veiled women cross a bridge behind which an aqueduct is dominated by ruins, men rest in the shade while storks seek their sustenance.
An indefatigable traveler, Achille Fouquier brought back sketches, anecdotes and observations from his many trips, collected in several books that were published. Whether from the Basque Country (he was mayor of Saint-Jean-de-Luz), Italy, Greece, the Balkans or the Middle East, his drawings taken from life are testimony to the history of these regions
