Our model is close to that of the former Doucet collection. Another is reproduced in "The Encyclopedia of the French clocks" by P. Kjellberg (page 270), with the profile of Louis XVI "protecting the Navy and the Liberty of Trade ". Another variant exists with cannons arming the ship (see Vergoldete Bronzen, H. Ottomeyer et al.).
Very beautiful piece, spectacular and rare. Mercury gilding (great depth) and the quality of carving are excellent. Our clock is probably a work of the famous bronzier Robert Osmond.
