World War I Trench Dagger
We are selling this trench dagger, which was manufactured specifically between late 1915 and 1916.
It was during this period that the ministry placed massive orders for variants of the so-called “Coutrot” daggers—named after a commander who oversaw their development in collaboration with cutlers—to replace the makeshift knives crafted by the soldiers themselves.
In this case, the recycled blade comes from the bayonet of the Lebel rifle.
The “G.P.” mark corresponds to the Georges Pagé cutlery factory, located in Vienne, near Châtellerault.
With its original leather sheath (rare).
