The son of Jupiter and Semele, he embodies wine and celebration, as well as ecstasy and the liberation of the senses. Often depicted with satyrs, maenads, and bunches of grapes, he symbolizes life’s pleasures and the surrender to one’s passions.
In the 19th century, Bacchus remained a prominent figure in the arts, particularly in painting and sculpture. These depictions reflect the era’s fascination with Greco-Roman antiquity.
