Signed lower right "André Marchand 1900", André Marchand (1877-1951). Old natural wood frame and trace of label on the back from the framer in Paris.

Parisian academic painter, trained by the greatest academic masters of the time (Léon Bonnat, Édouard Detaille and Gaston Toudouze). He exhibited his works at a very young age, becoming a member of the Société des Artistes Français in 1898. Recognized for his military and equestrian scenes, and honored by the Société des Artistes Français from the beginning of his career in 1904 and in 1920. He distinguished himself with his paintings of military scenes, portraits and numerous equestrian scenes, in the academic tradition French from the turn of the 20th century, with particular attention to detail and realistic representation. Several of his works are held in public collections, notably at the Massey Museum (65).
