Alabaster Lamp Depicting A Young Girl
A splendid figurative table lamp in carved alabaster, made in Italy in the mid-19th century, with great sculptural and decorative appeal.
The base features a refined female figure in the round, carved from a single block of alabaster: a young maiden with a delicate face and hair gathered in soft waves, captured in a graceful, dancing pose with one leg raised and bent. She wears a long, classically draped gown that leaves one shoulder bare and falls naturally to her feet, held at the waist by a belt in a soft sage green hue. With both hands raised, the maiden gracefully holds the capital that supports the light fixture, in a gesture reminiscent of ancient caryatids and classical allegories of Light.
The figure rests on an oval alabaster base, shaped and decorated along the edge with small green leaf motifs. The alabaster, in its warm shades ranging from milky white to powder pink and light green, allows the light to shine through with a unique softness, creating a warm and enveloping glow.
The lamp is completed by the original domed shade in ivory fabric, edged with refined trim and a long fringe of silk thread, which diffuses a soft and romantic light, perfectly in keeping with the bourgeois and aristocratic taste of the 19th century.
A truly charming piece, ideal as a focal point on a console table, a dresser, a living room table, or a period nightstand.
