Sculpture “gloria” – G. Bareau, 1892 Salon

An elegant sculpture depicting a winged figure in a dynamic and triumphant pose, crafted in gilded bronze and set on a base of red Griotte marble. The figure, characterized by refined anatomical modeling, finely crafted hair, and wide, outstretched wings, stands out for the grace of its pose and the richness of its decorative details. The figure rests on a globe adorned with engraved motifs, while the red Griotte marble base, with its warm tones and distinctive veining, lends the piece an elegant chromatic contrast.
The work bears the signature “GLORIA – Par G. Bareau (Salon 1892),” a reference to its presentation at the 1892 Paris Salon. The exquisite gilding of the bronze enhances the sculptural quality of the composition and lends the sculpture a luminosity of great decorative effect.
An object of refined craftsmanship, embodying French sculptural taste from the 19th century through the early fin de siècle period, ideal for enriching a collection of art bronzes or enhancing a classic, formal setting.
