Pair Of Travertine Marble Columns

An important pair of decorative travertine marble columns of Italian origin, created between the late 19th century and the early 20th century, characterized by a refined architectural design and rich ornamentation in the neoclassical style.
The shafts, cylindrical in shape and slightly tapered, are embellished on the front with refined ornamental motifs carved in relief, featuring elegant plant garlands, volutes, racemes, leaves, and floral compositions, culminating at the top in an elegant basket motif overflowing with flowers and fruits. The decoration, carved directly into the travertine, creates a pleasing contrast between the textured surface of the stone and the meticulous sculptural craftsmanship.
The columns rest on broad, rectangular, molded bases, while the tops are crowned by imposing geometric capitals with projecting profiles, which lend the entire structure a monumental and harmonious character.
The beautiful patina of the travertine, enhanced by the stone’s natural color variations and porosity, further adds to the work’s charm. The fact that they are designed as a pair and the richness of their decorative elements make them visually striking pieces, ideal for reception areas, entryways, and living rooms, or as supports for sculptures and works of art.
An elegant example of Italian craftsmanship bridging eclecticism and the Neoclassical revival, particularly representative of the decorative taste of the era.
