Apulian “alberello” Vase – Laterza Pottery
An important 18th-century Apulian majolica “alberello” vase from the Laterza factory, part of Apulia’s historic ceramic and majolica tradition. It is characterized by its typical tapered cylindrical shape and wide mouth with a slightly flared rim.
The body is entirely hand-painted with vibrant polychrome ornamentation on a light background, executed primarily in shades of blue, green, yellow, and orange. The decorative repertoire features stylized plant motifs, leaves, flowers, and fruits, interspersed with ornamental elements in the traditional Apulian style. At the center of the composition stands a bird figure, harmoniously nestled among the rich interweaving of vine branches and floral motifs.
The decoration is complemented by geometric bands and zigzag motifs along the neck and base, in keeping with the characteristic ornamental style of Apulian ceramics.
A piece of particular interest for its vibrant colors and the quality of its decoration, reflecting the Apulian ceramic tradition and the craftsmanship of the Manifattura di Laterza.
