Lithograph By Giorgio De Chirico, 20th Century
Artist: Giorgio De Chirico
The work shown here is a lithograph by Giorgio de Chirico (1888–1978), classically titled “The Horses of Achillei” (or similar variations such as “Horses on an Ancient Beach” or
“Horses on the Shore of the Tyrrhenian Sea”), created around 1971. Two elegant, mythological horses on the beach, with a small classical temple in the background and fragments of Greek or Roman columns in the foreground—elements typical of de Chirico’s metaphysical and classicist iconography from his later period. Lithograph signed “G. de Chirico,” hand-colored, with drystamped marks from Casa De Chirico and the printer Alberto Caprini. The mat shows some yellowing, and there are small spots on the print. 1970s.
